Cains Appoints Geoff Kermeen To Head Its London Office

26th May 2010

International law and professional services group Cains today announces the appointment of Geoff Kermeen as the new head of its London City office.
Kermeen, who specialises in advising investors and banks involved in commercial and residential property transactions, said:
“Historically, property-related tax efficient investment vehicles have been established in a variety of different jurisdictions.  However, there are an increasing number of leading advisers that are looking afresh at the particular benefits of the Isle of Man when compared with competitor financial centres.  This growing trend is evidenced by the fact that over the past three years, Cains has advised on over US$15 billion of real estate transactions.

“In general, the Isle of Man plays an important role in attracting international business and investment to the City and the United Kingdom. I look forward to leading the Cains London office in its close partnership with UK based advisers to offer integrated, high quality services and solutions to them and their clients”.

Mr Kermeen, a Manxman who has been with Cains for over ten years, is currently a departmental director in the London office.  His appointment follows the departure of Daniel Mackelden, who has led the firm in London since 2005.  Cains is headquartered in the Isle of Man, with international offices in London and Singapore.

Katherine Shea, an associate in Cains corporate department, will relocate from the Isle of Man to the firm’s London office to support Mr Kermeen and the City-based team.  Ms Shea’s main areas of practice are financial services regulation and corporate restructurings and reorganisations, with particular expertise in employment and data protection law.
